Driven by the desire to apply her extensive advocacy and public policy experience to her native Buffalo, Bishop took a position at Buffalo First in March 2010 and was appointed executive director in October. From lecture series, workshops and monthly mixers designed to promote collaboration between citizens, non-profits and for-profit entities, to becoming a member of the Canal Side Community Alliance Steering Committee, which advocates for a Community Benefits Agreement and a waterfront supporting local, independent businesses, Buffalo First has made cohesive community engagement its hallmark under Bishop's guidance.
Workshop: Buffalo First's advocacy of the triple bottom line - people, planet and profit - and the organization's push for benefit corporation legislation in New York State has resulted in a City of Buffalo Common Council resolution at the local level and a renewed legislative campaign at the state level, with expected passage of the B-Corp bills by the end of 2011.
